| Worship at Stringtown |
The Church at Stringtown strives to pattern our practices after those established by the Apostles, as recorded in the New Testament. Although the contemporary Church incorporates different methods, and certainly has more resources & technology than the Church of the 1st Century, there are many unchanging and consistent practices that span time. The following is an overview of our worship practices that model the 1st Century Church. |
- Assembling together on the 1st day of the week.
The New Testament is clear in it's teaching that worship is not what we do ... worship is who we are . We do not "go to Church" as some would say, because we are the Church. Since Christians are the Church, and we are to continually offer ourselves as living sacrifices to God, we teach that our lives are a continual expression of worship to God. To say that we "go to worship" infers that it is possible to leave worship. We teach that Christians are to gather (as patterned in the New Testament) on the first day of the week, and at every other opportunity, for the encouragement of one another, equipping through the Scripture, and to unite our voices in praise.

- The weekly remembrance of Christ through Communion.
A central focus of our weekly assembly is the communion remembrance of Christ. Jesus implemented the "Lord's Supper" as a weekly focus of remembrance for the assembly. Though no one is forced to participate in this special remembrance, all Christians are encouraged to examine themselves & to eat & drink in remembrance of Christ's sacrifice.
|
- Uniting our voices in celebration through music & song.
One very encouraging part of our assembly is the singing and music that we use as an expression of praise to God. Using a variety of styles, the Stringtown Christian Church enjoys singing songs of faith. Typically, we will sing a number of traditional hymns as well as a mix of some more contemporary styled praise choruses. Nearly every service will include a "special song" offered by the choir or individuals from the Church.
|
- Encouraging one another toward good works in Christ.
A signature characteristic of the Stringtown Church is our obvious love for one another. Numerous opportunities to interact with others & grow in friendship are offered each time we assemble.
|
- Equipping from the public reading & teaching of Scripture.
Scripture receives a very prominent place in our assembly. Every sermon that is presented by our Evangelist is based upon verses from the Bible.
|
- Sharing with one another as any should have need.
Ministry opportunities, special needs assistance, prayer support, counseling advice & encouragement are an ongoing expression of our love for one another. Additionally, we offer benevolence help in our community when legitimate needs are known.
|
- Receiving offerings.
Anyone in attendance in the Sunday morning assembly may participate in giving offering, however, we do not expect guests to participate, or for anyone to participate out of a sense of compulsion.
